MS. 001 — IN REVISION

Silvy Sharon Nag

I make research readable publishable.

Editor and content specialist at Reseapro Scientific. I work with researchers whose science is sound but whose writing isn't yet carrying it — editing manuscripts to publication standard, shaping responses to reviewers, and leading the team that delivers them.

About

Every manuscript arrives as somebody's best attempt.

My job is to find what it is trying to say, and then make sure a reviewer can see it too. Those are two different problems, and most drafts fail at the second one.

I came to publishing through literature — a master's in English, and a thesis on how folklore turns women into witches. What that training gave me was not a style guide. It was the habit of reading closely enough to notice what an author means but has not yet written down.

Now I do that for researchers in health sciences, life sciences and technology. Many are writing in their second or third language, for journals whose standards do not bend. I handle the manuscript, the peer-review response, the journal selection and the covering letter.

Areas of expertise

What I can read closely.

Subjects I can edit with judgement rather than just a style guide — where I know the conventions, the literature and what a reviewer in that field is looking for.

  • English
  • Literature
  • Linguistics
  • Economics
  • Sociology
  • Psychology
  • LGBTQ+ Studies
  • Life Sciences

AI practice

Where editorial judgement meets AI fluency.

Most editors can do one or the other. The value is in the overlap — knowing what these tools are genuinely good at, and knowing exactly where they stop.

What I use it for

First-pass structural drafting, literature triage, terminology consistency and turning a dense methods section into something a non-specialist reviewer can follow. It compresses the mechanical hours.

Where I stop it

It does not decide what a paper argues, which journal will take it, or how to answer Reviewer 2. And it will flatten an author's voice into the same competent grey if nobody is watching. Somebody has to be watching.

Why it matters to a publisher

Journals are tightening their AI disclosure rules, not loosening them. Knowing how to use these tools and how to declare their use is quickly becoming part of the job description.

Research

Exploring the figure of the “good” witch.

A witch is what a society calls a woman whose power it cannot account for.

A feminist reading — MA thesis, Sikkim University, June 2023

Supervised by Dr. Abrona Lee Pandi Aden, Assistant Professor, Sikkim University

Origins

Traced how witchcraft was understood across societies, and how it fastened itself to magic and to the things a community was already afraid of.

Literature

Followed the witch from Macbeth into modern media, where the same figure is reclaimed as a symbol of female power rather than a warning against it.

Politics

Examined the socio-political machinery behind historical witch hunts — the gender bias and the power dynamics that decided who was accused.

Close reading is the whole job. Learn to read a 400-year-old play for what it will not say outright, and a methods section holds no terror.

Checked against the record.
